Workday on School Garden at McCaver

We had our first garden volunteer work day on Saturday March 5th.  CASTINGS board and volunteers along with several Peace Makers laid cardboard as a base and then added  7 raised beds, a 3 compartment compost bin, and 2 worm boxes which were then placed on top.  Volunteers then moved 10 yards of chips, to cover the cardboard and provide a weed free barrier for students to work in.

These are the first steps towards fulfilling the students concept and design ideas.  Our desire is to achieve the look and feel of the garden the Peace Makers created on paper and translate that into a working garden feature for all grade levels to use.

Our next work day will be Saturday March 12 from 10 until 2 with volunteers from the Peace Makers, Civitas and Youth United. Peace Makers will canvas the neighborhood with Civitas to once again provide information to neighbors about the available garden plots and Garden Forum meetings that are held the 1st Wednesday of every month.

Many thanks go out to our volunteers for all of their hard work, and to Metro Parks for their help and donations.  Also a big thank you to Papa Johns for their generous donation of food to feed everyone.
